Family Red Sox Game Last Night

Last night was Lauren's (Ben's sister) birthday. About 3-4 months ago Ben thought it would be cool to get her Red Sox tickets. Pretty good brotherly move if you ask me.
Last night Jamula found out his friend had 20 extra Red Sox tickets for $25 each.
Well that's ironic don't you think? Its all of our first game of the year (except for Ben who went to a game earlier this year with Heather) and Joyce was trying to get a game where all of us could go but she bought them for a thursday when both Kim and I had class.
Turns out Alex couldnt go, Kim wanted to go but backed out (when she found out Kenny couldn't go) but Kayt and Heather jumped in feet first. Lauren was coming up from the Islands with Brian her boyfriend who didn't have a ticket either, so he got one. The whole escapade getting to the park, getting the tickets, finding out they weren't even together, getting in the park, finding seats together, losing the seats together, getting seperated, and then finally sitting down with a nice juicy sausage wasn't really appealing. Especially since I basically missed the first 3 innings.
Other than that the game was good. We only missed dice K going no hit and then giving it up in the 5th and John Lackey of the Angels only let up 1 hit so it was 0-0. Later Lackey made an error to let in two runs in around the 6th, Papi hit a homer right in front of us in the 8th and they scored another run to make it 4-0. Bard threw 99, 99, 100 in a row. Paplebomb came in even though they were up 4 (he must need the confidence booster because he let up a run). And the Sox still won.
Joyce and I sat together. Ben and Lauren had an empty seat next to them and Brian found his way over there when he "dissapeared" on Jamlua and Joyce. Matt ended up sitting in our original attempt to sit together seats with Heather and Kayt. It all worked out very nicely.
The wave got going pretty good. haha. I wonder hoe many times we do the wave on this trip. Stat #1 for Our "Fan Stats". More to come.
Come on. We are engineers. We gotta keep track of our numbers.

2010 Schedule Relased

So to set a time frame on what has happened today... Last night was MondayNightFootball opening night when TOM BRADY came back for his first game in a Patriots uniform since he blew his knee out in the first game last year. Lets just say the Pats fans were out and rabbid again. Either way the better part about today is that the 2010 MLB schedule was released offically! YUP! So that means now we can officially get the planning going. Some other major events since my last post... Ben's lung collapsed, we moved to Parker St, and NU is back in Fall semester. That's all for now. More details on the planning later. We already have a initial plan based around the all star game in Anaheim.

This being my first post I should introduce myself to those who dont know me. Im from Germantown NY, and an avid Yankees fan. Im studying Civil Engineering at Northeastern University with Ben. Ive lived with Big Ben since the beginning of our sophmore year. We have gone to a few games together (I brought him to the old Yankee stadium, He brought me to a Yankees Sox game at Fenway just to mention a few) which is what started this idea.
Before this trip I have been to Fenway, Old Yankee Stadium, New Yankee Stadium, Shea, Camden, Kansas City, Tropicana in Tampa, and as you can see below Nationals Stadium.
Well I just got back from my family reunion (a major source of couches across the country) and found some good hook ups. Nora is in Phoenix (who knows where she will be next year but its a start). Jonathan said that he does a lot of work in Atlanta, which is good because Sally & Mike just moved from Augusta which was our couch down there. Sally & Mike, however did just move to Austin, Texas, which could be an option for Houston but probably not Dallas. It is defiantly a good place to stop.
I also found out I might have a chance to go to 2 games on Labor Day at Yankee Stadium. The Fingars had a rain out rescheduled to labor day when they already had a ticket so they gave them to my dad who asked me. Shawn and Alex are going to the second game that day with Alex's sister and boyfriend so if they (sister and boyfriend) dont end up wanting to go then I might be able to go to 2. SAAWEEET.
Just to put this in perspective Last weekend the yankees played the red sox in a 4 game series. Can you say sweep? The yankees crushed them to go up 6 games in the standings. Just had to mention that.

Scouting It Out

So even though it's still months before our trip, I figured its time for another post. Andy was able to catch a game in Washington last week, as the Nats hosted the Mets (not quite an exhilarating match up this year, huh?). He said it was a cool stadium, but no one was there. Too bad that in such a nice city and a brand new park, no one goes to those games.
I also caught my first game of the season last night at the Friendly Confines as the Sox hosted the Oakland A's. Great pitching performance by Josh Beckett (7 k's in 7+ innings I believe) and Boston won 8-3 to stay 2 and 1/2 back of New York (I'm pretty sure they won last night as well). Got me really excited for the trip and made me wonder how other parks will compare with Fenway. I'm not going to lie, I hope the newer parks have a little more leg room than the seats here in Boston, which aren't too comfortable with my 6'5" frame. But given all the games I've seen there and the fact that it's Fenway, I'd say it's a fair trade off.
Enough for now...we're still looking for contacts for places to stay, so if you live in an MLB city be sure to let us know.

About the Trip...

About ten years ago, I read about two guys who traveled around the country to every Major League Baseball ballpark. After reading about the trip, I instantly knew I would do a trip of my own at some point in my life. A lot of people thought I was nuts, but I said why not?
A little bit about me...
Ever since I was young I've been a pretty big sports fun. Growing up in Massachusetts with four competitive major sports franchises, it's hard not to be. Usually, I substituted cable television morning cartoons (which we didn't have in our house) with a reading of the morning Globe's box scores and headlines. I started playing baseball in tee-ball, probably around the age of 5, and continued to play through the end of high school and ended by career before coming here to Northeastern. But, even though I haven't laced 'em up in 4 years, I haven't lost that passion for the game that was instilled in me in such a young age. I know a lot of you may feel the same way, so that is the reason I've started this blog.
Anyways, my roomate and good friend Andy and I will be going on our own tour of all Major League Baseball stadiums in the summer of 2010. We both graduate from Northeastern next May, and can't think of a better way to celebrate. Sure, we could do the whole Eurotrip thing, or hike some mountain, or go to Egypt (oh wait, I did that last summer!...http://benlavoieinegypt.blogspot.com/)...but since I have never been west of Florida (no, I'm not joking), I think this is a way better plan. I mean seriously, 30 stadiums in about 3 months? That sounds like one hell of a summer to me. Oh yeah, the sites we will see along this 10,000+ mile voyage won't be too shabby either.
Now, don't think this is some long winded hope. We've already done some serious planning (cost, distance, itinerary, etc.). We figure it will cost about $2000-$3000 each and should take a little more than 3 months, depending on the 2010 MLB schedule (Bud Selig, if you listening?). We graciously accept any monetary donations, but since those aren't too likely, what we could really use is a place to sleep/shower/eat. We have a pretty decent list of candidates going, but if you are living near any of the MLB cities, we're all ears! We'll soon have a basic plan up so you can check it out. Well, considering we still have about a year, that's enough for now. But keep checking back for updates.
